Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Hockey in Belle River

As more questions come in we will add to this list. 


Q. How old does my child need to be to play in Belle River Minor Hockey 
A. In order to be register your child has to be between 4-21 years old.  

Q. What equipment does my child require to play hockey in Belle River.
A.  Non Expired - CSA certified Helmet/with cage/or full visor
     Neck Guard, Shoulder Pads, Elbow Pads, Hockey Gloves, Hockey Pants, Shin Pads 
     Hockey Skates, Jock or Jill, Mouth Guard, Hockey Stick
     *New this year Water Bottle. 
** Belle River Minor will provide Hockey Socks and Jersey to all players/ Goalies ** 

Q.  Does my Child need to know how to skate in order to start Minor Hockey?  
A.   It is encouraged that they know how to skate but is not required.   In our U5 - Mites Divisions we ask that one parent joins the child (if they can) on the ice for the first few weeks.  Parent would require Skates, Hockey Helmet. 

Q.  When does the season start and how long does it go. 
A.  This year is going to be a bit different from other years in Belle River and across the province.   
      Minor Hockey will officially be back starting on the following dates (please look at schedules to confirm dates and times) 
      September 7th is the Start of Pre Skates 
      September 11th - AAA tryouts (With Alliance)
      September 17th - AA Tryouts (Belle River)
      September 24th - A Tryouts  (Bluewater A centre's)
      September 30th - House League Starts 

      Travel Season is anticipated to run through end of March with Mandatory Black out dates at March Break and Christmas Break 

Q: Do we need to be vaccinated to participate in hockey programming in BRDMHA. 
A: as of September 3rd, 2021 the OMHA has released its Covid -19 Vaccination Policy and yes members/volunteers are required to be fully vaccinated by October 31st to participate.  There is a opportunity to get an accommodation.  This needs to be sent to the OMHA for approval.  If approved your player will need provide a Negative Test 72 hours before you attend any team activities. 

House League is being scheduled to have approximately 30 Ice Slots. There will be black out weekends as the Municipality has scheduled black out weekends for special events at the Atlas Tube Centre (these are outside the control of BRDMHA) There will also be a Shutdown during Christmas Break and March Break weekends as Mandated by the OMHA.
